A Place To Eat

I realized straight away that my dog would need somewhere to eat, and this is essential in ensuring that it is going to be a happy pooch. Having a regular place to eat is important, because it means that they associate that area with eating, and therefore will eat with fewer worries and concerns. For this reason, it is one of the first things to do when getting a dog, and actually it is easy enough to make sure that you can find a place for the dog to eat. I used a corner of my kitchen, which is a typical place to use, and my dog seems to be perfectly happy with that. But it can be anywhere, so long as it is somewhere that the dog can be comfortable and relatively undisturbed while they are eating their food.

A Collar & Lead

Clearly, I did not want to lose my dog either, so getting hold of a collar and lead was also going to be hugely important here. The choice of dog collars is actually very important, I discovered, as it makes a huge difference in how the dog feels about itself, and it is something which proves useful if they should ever get lost as well. For this reason, I spent a long time choosing between them until I found one I was happy with, and this is the one that the dog has stuck to to this day. It is one of the small but necessary early decisions which need to be made, and something which I had to consider early on.

 Regular Walks

This is something that we all know about having a dog, and yet even so I was not fully prepared for just how much walking I would need to do. Depending on the breed of dog you might need to walk your dog up to three times a day, so it is important to be as fit and active as possible. Fortunately, I live such a lifestyle where this is easy enough, so I was able to do it straight away, but it was still; something of a shock.
