Does the thought of turning sixty fill you with dread? There is no doubt that this age is a pivotal moment for so many people, and I agree that it’s definitely a time to make significant changes. But it is also the time to have fun and live your best life – you just need to put the right things in order first so you can enjoy this stage of your life free from worries and full of happiness. Are you dreading getting older? There’s no need! Here are five things that you can do to help you embrace the joys of turning sixty.

Consider Making Younger Friends

Granted, your peer groups or age mates are a great source of companionship and comfort as they can relate better – so don’t get rid of them. However, younger friends can be a great source of enthusiasm and fresh ideas. They can also be good buddies if you know how to pick them and then set the right boundaries. Even better than being a source of inspiration to you, having younger friends means that you can also be a source of inspiration to them. And few things are more fulfilling than inspiring a younger generation.

Quit a Bad Habit

I’m not going to attempt to make a list of habits to quit before knocking on sixty – there are too many of them! However, it is never too late to stop harmful habits, such as smoking and heavy drinking. While doing your best to drop the bad habits, pick up positive ones like exercising regularly, losing weight, or eating healthy meals. These good habits come with not only fewer health problems, but also more energy and less stress, and they can even save you a lot of money on medical bills.

Make Plans for Your Absence

Most people find this topic a little uncomfortable, but it is essential to make plans for your absence. As soon as you start acquiring property, you need to start preparing a will and regularly update it. Also, you need to be clear about what kind of funeral options you want. Most funeral homes allow for such preparations even years beforehand. Therefore you should speak to a funeral director at your convenience.

Make a Retirement Plan

One of the worst things you can ever do to yourself during retirement or as you age is to live an idle life. Being idle can affect your mental and physical health, so it is important to have a retirement plan – something to keep you active and productive. This may even mean starting a different kind of work or taking up an engaging hobby. But no matter what you do, it is sure to stop you from becoming a couch potato.

Surround Yourself with Love

No one wants to be lonely, no matter how old we are. If you’re lucky enough to have kids and grandkids, you should endeavor to spend more time with them. Grandkids, especially, can be a great source of joy when you have them around. Also, make sure that you surround yourself with loved ones, friends, and family. You can never have too much love.
