Generally, when you end up in a relationship with someone, you have a natural bond between you. The conversation runs naturally. You make one another happy with your presence alone. But it’s important to remember that no matter how natural your relationship is, you still need to put effort in to make sure that the person you’re with knows that they are appreciated and to keep positive emotions running high at all times.

So many relationships fail because people start taking each other for granted and won’t do anything to show their partner how much they love them. There are a few tips and tricks that I’ve picked up over the years that will really help to keep your relationship as positive and happy as possible. Here are a few that you should really take into consideration. You might like to try them out too!

Learn Your Partner’s Love Language

One of the things that has helped me the most in my relationships has been to learn your partner’s love language. Not all of us communicate our feelings in the same way. We have different love languages and the better you understand your partner’s love language, the easier you will find it to do things that will make them happy. There are five common love languages. These are:

  • Words of affirmation – people with this love language appreciate being told how much you care about them. This can be simple compliments, written messages or love letters, telling them how much you appreciate them and other communication.

  • Acts of service – people who appreciate acts of service feel that actions speak louder than words. They’ll appreciate small gestures that show you’ve been thinking of them or have gone out of your way for them. This might be picking them up a coffee, doing the dishes, making dinner, or other thoughtful acts.

  • Receiving gifts – some people like to receive thoughtful gifts. This could be a bunch of flowers, some chocolates or something more extravagant.

  • Quality time – if your partner’s love language is quality time, they like to feel that you’re actively making time for them. Make sure to spend quality time with them when you can. This could be keeping a night free for date night, popping in to see them on their lunch break, or other time.

  • Physical touch – some people like to communicate their affection through physical touch. They might like to hold hands while walking, for you to put your arm around them while you’re sitting down, or resting your hand on their knee in public settings.

Knowing your partners’ love language can prevent you from falling out and looking for a Financial settlement in a divorce.

Communicate

I’ve learnt that issues arise when you don’t communicate effectively with your partner. To keep your relationship healthy, you really do need to talk if any issues arise. If something is making you unhappy, bring it up and find a way to resolve it. This goes for your partner too. This will help to avoid arguments when issues build up and boil over.

These are just a few tips and tricks that I feel can really help to keep your relationship as healthy and happy as possible. Give them a try!
