It’s something that everyone has trouble with, even myself. Having that confidence and feeling good in your own skin can be challenging at any age, but especially as you get older. Your body changes, and so you face new obstacles to overcome in order to love your body both on the inside and out. Here are some tips to help feel more confident in your skin.
Get Yourself A New Clothes Haul
There’s nothing better than feeling like you’ve got a new lease of life, than going shopping and getting yourself a new clothes haul. Sometimes, we can be stuck in our old ways of what we feel looks good for our shape and what we’re used to. However, that’s something that might have been good back then but isn’t doing anything for you right now. You want to feel comfortable but confident in what you wear, and if you’re not feeling either of these when it comes to your clothes, it’s time to fix that.
Take yourself out for the day and spend some time finding the right outfits for you and your personality. It’s worth figuring out what your body shape is if you don’t already know and to find the right stores that suit your style and taste. Create A Manageable Skincare Routine
When it comes to loving the skin you’re in, it’s important to think about that in a literal sense too. Your skin is the biggest organ in the body, and it sits on the outside, so it’s subject to damage and more vulnerable to it. Signs of ageing will show a lot sooner than it will when it comes to the physical ageing. It’s important that you are taking good care of your skin, and it’s something that you should be doing from an early age.
We all start ageing from the moment we’re born, and so if you’re in your twenties, you should have started some form of skincare routine by now. It’s better to prevent the signs of ageing, rather than it being too late and you’re trying to reduce the problem you have with skin problems.
Find a routine that works for you that’s manageable because what might work for someone else, might not work for you or me in particular.
Fake It Till You Make It
I always say that it’s important to fake it till you make it. It’s having that appearance of confidence even if you’re shaking with nerves inside. It’s something that is important to work on, and it will get easy as you get older and become more confident within yourself and what you’re capable of.
Life does certainly throw a lot at you, and as you get older, you start to learn a lot more about yourself and your limits. When you’re trying to feel better and more confident in your skin, try putting it on when you perhaps aren’t feeling that way. If you project that confidence, it’s going to show to others, regardless of whether it’s real or not.
Whether you’re going to an event or stepping into a work meeting, walk in there with confidence, and it will show.
Say Positive Things To Yourself
Positive words are something we’re often unfamiliar with. Why? Well, I would say that we are often likely to criticize ourselves more than compliment ourselves when we’ve done well. When was the last time you praised yourself for something you did or achieved? And when was the last time you picked out something you did wrong and shamed yourself for it?
Most people are going to pick the latter because it’s easy to put that hate on ourselves than to celebrate ourselves. We fear that others are going to put us down, but it’s important to be your own cheerleader. It’s good to say positive things to yourself every day because you can’t rely on someone to say them to you.
A good way of bringing this positivity to your life is through positive words and sayings to yourself in the morning or last thing at night. Take a moment to share that celebration for yourself or that appreciation of what you’re doing.
It might sound weird at first, especially if you’re saying them to yourself out loud. However, it can really help you to find happiness and to be more confident in your abilities in general.
Work On Your Weaknesses
A lack of confidence can come from being wary of your weaknesses. We all have weaknesses, and if someone were to say they don’t have any, they’ve not discovered them. We’re constantly building on ourselves and working hard to become the best versions. I’m doing it beyond the age of sixty, and it’s something we’ll all continue to do, regardless of the age we reach. If you’re struggling with certain things, focus on them instead of running away from it. Look at how you can improve those weaknesses, whether it’s talking to strangers or simply being around social occasions where you feel overwhelmed. As you work on your weaknesses, you start to feel more confident in yourself.
Spend More Time On Yourself
Spending time on yourself is definitely something you want to actively do. A lot of us won’t do enough self-care for ourselves, and so it’s good to prioritize it where you can. Taking time out to do things that you love are certainly necessary. Think about how you could spend more time on yourself, whether it’s getting yourself a hobby or having an evening to pamper yourself. When you give yourself more self-care, it gives you the tools and ability to help others. You can’t be the best person for others without first working on yourself. Spending time on yourself can help with your confidence, and you can certainly find a lot of that from knowing who you are and giving yourself time for you and only you.
Surround Yourself With Positive People
It’s true that surrounding yourself with the people who bring you up are going to be the best for you. Positive people are always going to be better than having those who are negative and do what they can to bring you down. When you’re trying to work on your confidence, you need people who are going to make you feel at ease, rather than making you feel even worse about yourself. Start looking at your friendship group and who is someone that might be causing you a disadvantage. Some friendships work out, and some don’t, but it’s not something you should necessarily be worried about.
If you lose a friend, acknowledge that they were in your life for a reason, but now they’re no longer there. Your confidence can come from having supportive friends, so make sure you have plenty of them around you to provide that to you.
Feeling more confident in your skin is definitely important, and it can be done in a variety of ways. Try to focus on surrounding yourself with positive people and working on yourself both inside and out. Spend more time with yourself, rather than always putting others before you. And if in doubt, there’s always faking your confidence until you actually have it. Say positive words to yourself and work on those weaknesses that will make you stronger overall. You have the ability to be confident in yourself, so own it.
