3 Ways to take Better Care of Your Health as you Age

There is no denying that, above all, our bodies will change the most as we age. We may even feel as if we’re still the young and fun-loving people we used to be – and we still are, to a certain degree – but the mirror tells a different story. Taking care of your health and making sure that your body it is in optimal shape is particularly important and anything you do will help you to ‘party on’!

Here are a couple of ways to look a bit better after your health during the new year. I’m focusing on the health problems that are most prominent for us over sixty so that you can adjust it to fit your current state of health perfectly.

#1 Heart health: Go on regular walks

Walking is, in fact, so important for our health and as little as a twenty-minute walk every day will definitely make a huge difference in how you feel when you wake up in the morning. Walk with your dog, with your friend, or just to look at the trees – as long as you get out there.

It’s great for your brain as well, by the way, and in quite a different way than running. The motion of putting one foot in front of the other in the slow and steady pace of walking has proven to be really beneficial for your mental health and in particular your memory.

Have a look at this article for some more information on the topic and a few more reasons to get out there and enjoy a good walk at least once a day.

#2 Dental health: Rinsing with water

Who knew that the easiest thing in the world would also be one of the best things you can do for your teeth? Keeping your mouth from getting dry will help you to avoid any painful dental problems as you age – as well as that costly bill from the dentist, of course.

While both brushing and flossing are the most important things you can do, rinsing your mouth with water throughout the day and especially at night will help you even more. The point is that, when your mouth gets as dry as it tends to get during the night, your teeth are at a greater risk of attacks and developing cavities.

A few large sips of water as you wake up throughout the night will, in other words, keep the dentist as well as the doctor away.

#3 Bone health: Dancing

The older we get, the more brittle our boned tend to get – and particularly for women. Staying active and keeping your muscles strong is important when you’d like to avoid the pain of breaking something so try to sign up for a dance class in your area.

You could definitely lift weights instead, though, if you prefer this but keep in mind that dancing is great for your mind as well as your body. It will be fun as well, in any way, and anything that keeps us healthier while we’re able to have fun should be welcomed.

Now you have the tools to feel a bit better during your everyday life and another reason to enjoy a couple of long walks every day; it just makes it a bit easier to avoid the doctor’s office.
