Damn Good Strategies For Staying Healthy At 60 (And Beyond)

I used to think that when I got into 60s, my health would inevitably decline, but I have been pleasantly surprised to discover that this doesn’t have to be the case. In fact, what with all the medical advances, and more easily accessible information about health, there seems to be a wealth of strategies that I can use to stay as healthy as possible. Four of which you can read about in more detail below.

Do watch what you eat.

It can be so tempting just to stop caring about what you eat once you reach the big six-0. Trust me I know! However, just like at any other age your body still needs the right nutrients, calories, and fibre. In fact, there is a good case for arguing that as the body ages proper nutrition becomes even more critical!

Of course, that doesn’t mean that I live on a diet of iceberg lettuce, and All-bran! In fact, for me, it’s more about everything in moderation including treats! After all, if you can’t have the odd biccy with you tea once you’ve hit 60, when can you? I just try to make sure that it doesn’t turn into the whole pack in one sitting!

Don’t forget to get health insurance.

Next, to take the best care myself at 60, I think investing in health insurance can be a wise move.

After all, while some folks are we are lucky enough to get free medical care provided, having access to fast, private care can make things a lot more comfortable and manageable if you do experience a health problem. It also provides me with that extra security of knowing that if I did need a procedure, I won’t have to wait too long. Something that can not only be nerve-wracking but also negatively affect the long term prognosis as well.

Do get regular checkups.

Of course, attending regular medical checkup is another essential strategy I use to keep myself in the best possible condition.

Luckily, I find it easy to visit a local medical practice like the CBD Medical Centre, and can get checked for signs of a number of conditions that are most common after 60. Some of which include diabetes, cancer, and heart disease.

Although, if mobility is an issue you may want to ask a friend to give you a lift or even take a taxi. Both preferable, to missing out on such checkups that provide early warning and chance to start treatment when it is is most effective.

Don’t skimp on exercise.

Finally, although I’ve found that sometimes I don’t always feel like exercising, I usually feel much better when I have moved my body in some way. Of course, walking the dog is an excellent choice on a daily basis, but there are plenty of other options available as well including cycling, yoga, golf, an even join the local running club.

In fact, you might just be surprised at how many members over 60 such a club has, demonstrating that is indeed a damn good way of staying healthy!
