Whenever I think about what is most important in everyday life, my mind tends to go to the question of how to fill each moment of everyday life with wonder and positivity.

In life, there are all sorts of different potential sources of joy, happiness, and accomplishment, and there are also all sorts of different potential sources of stress, anxiety, and frustration.

One of the most common things that people do in order to try and enhance their experience of life is to set themselves ambitious goals and to constantly keep their eyes on the future. But although it’s often important to make plans, life is always what happens in each moment, in each “here and now,” and how we react to each moment.

Here are a few tips for experiencing a bit more wonder and positivity in everyday life.

Get out of your own head and into nature, and the present moment, regularly

I find that whenever I spend a prolonged period of time indoors, in front of the computer, or in front of the TV, my perspective on the world shifts, and I get quite caught up in my own web of thoughts.

When I get out into nature, on the other hand, the whole dynamic changes. Suddenly, my attention is drawn to things like a beautiful view, the wind moving through the grass, the sunrise and sunset, and so on.

These moments of awe and positivity are things that have to be experienced in the present moment – and getting out into nature is one of the best ways of getting out of your own head and into the present moment.

Avoid isolation, and engage with other people often

It’s probably fair to say that one of the big attractions of live in care is the way that it can provide people with regular social interaction and a sense of community.

Isolation is perhaps the single most detrimental lifestyle factor when it comes to things like depression – and research seems to find, over and over, but people who are more socially engaged are always happier, more positive, and more fulfilled in life.

Making it a priority to regularly engage with other people is essential.

Regularly try new things and put yourself in new situations

I notice that whenever I put myself in new situations, and try new things, I’m able to reconnect with that sense of enthusiasm and wonder that we all tend to experience as children.

As time goes on, it’s common for us all to fall into routines, and to miss out on a lot of the magic that’s present in everyday life.

But if you can make it a regular practice to continuously take up new hobbies, try new pastimes, and engage with life in a curious and enthusiastic way, that magic may come flooding back into view.
