Ideas for Interior Design

When it comes to decorating your home later in life, the less you have to do the better. Making sure the home looks nice is one thing, but I don’t want to be grabbing a paint brush every five minutes to spruce up the room. So with that in mind, I’m going to take a look at some of the ways we can decorate our rooms and some ideas behind interior design to give them the longevity I want the decor to have.

Painting

We all know that the colour of a room can be the biggest turn on or off. If the colour of a room is too garish the I won’t want to spend too long in there. That’s why it is important to keep in mind colour psychology when you come to decorating your walls. Far from being an over-the-top concept, this idea means that when I choose to sit in my front room I know the colour isn’t going to be jarring. For rooms that are made for relaxing there should be blues and greys on the wall to promote relaxation. Our brains are fascinating things, and they really do respond to colours in very specific ways.

In addition to colour psychology, I would suggest that any decorating should be done with personal preference in mind. Doing research on the psychology of colours is a good place to start, but if I don’t like the colour being suggested then I’m not going to use it.

Furniture

One thing that needs to be remembered is that there are few things better than a good night’s sleep or relaxing in the evening. And both of these things need comfortable furniture. I can see a lot online about how different furniture is made for people as they get older, but what exactly is it. If you were to take a trip to a facility looking after older people, you’d be likely to see age care chairs and I would suggest you would want to take one home. These chairs have been specially designed for comfort and health, so why wouldn’t I want one in my front room or dining area.

The same idea applies to the mattresses that are designed for comfort. There should be certain perks that come with ageing, and one those I’d say is having the luxury of comfortable bedding for a lower price. Make the most of any discount you can get your hands on to enjoy a good night’s sleep.

Decorating

The idea that decorating your home should be done every five to seven years is a good one, but it isn’t for everyone. Sometimes less is more!  Over the years there will have been many times when we have changed up the decor of the home, but that doesn’t mean I want to be doing it forever. A good colour and nice furniture in each room should be enough to enjoy our living space for many years.
