I quite firmly believe that 60 is the new 30. In an age where we’re better informed than ever of the difference a healthy diet and lifestyle can make to our longevity, many in their 60s, 70s and even 80s are feeling a sense of health, energy and vitality that they may never even have thought possible. While previous generations might have started winding down when approaching the big 6-0, today’s over 50s are getting more frisky, proving that you’re never too old!
If you’re reading and in your 60s you may be retired or about to retire, you may have a good few years of work left in the tank. You may be in a relationship, you may be single, divorced or widowed. Whatever your circumstances, with the possibility of a long and bright future ahead for you, remember that you’re never too old to…
Change your bad habits
Your body is a temple at any age. It’s also extremely resilient at any age, too! While there are some amongst us who smoke like chimneys, drink like fish and seem to eat nothing but fast food yet still like to a ripe old age, we all need to think about the effects our habits can have on both our longevity and quality of life. It’s never too late to clean up your diet, to quit smoking or reach out to an alcohol rehab centre if you’re starting to worry about how much or how often you’re drinking. Years or decades of habit may have made your vices a bigger part of your life, but there’s no habit that can’t be kicked. You’re stronger and more resilient than you know.
Have a healthy love life
Why is it that younger generations assume that it’s our duty to become asexual hermits as soon as we get past out forties? If you’re married or in a relationship, you’re never too old to go on dates. You’re never too old to expect your beau to surprise you with treats or flowers and treat them in turn from time to time. And, yes, you’re never too old to have a healthy and active sex life with your loved one. We can tend to take one another for granted as the years go by, but we never grow out of needing to love and be loved.
Likewise, if you’re currently single, there’s no reason to assume that dating is only for twenty somethings! Dating in your 60s and beyond can be every bit as thrilling and romantic as it was in our teen years… Except now you’re older, wiser and have a clear idea of who you are and what you want.
Get a pet
You may have kids that have grown up and fled the nest, but you’re never too old to have fur babies! Pets are a wonderful presence in our lives at any age. They can help to stave off loneliness, keep us fit and healthy and be a constant companion in an ever-changing and capricious world.
Remember you’re never too old to live your life to the fullest and be the best and happiest version of yourself that you can be!
