Sat on the eastern side of Madagascar, and just slightly east of Reunion island, Mauritius is a bountiful nation. It got independence in 1992 and has been self-governed ever since, though still remaining part of the Commonwealth of Nations. It’s a country of just 790 square miles but with a population of only 1.2 million people, there is plenty of room for everyone. This is why many people like to retire in mauritius because the mountains, beaches, and rivers are plentiful and it’s easy to get a little privacy. The culture is also very Western, with lots of things you would be familiar with such as spas, coffee shops, cinemas, football or soccer stadiums and plenty of nightlife clubs and bars.
