You may be of the opinion that a home-cooked candlelit dinner date couldn’t get more romantic than it already is. Well, I may surprise you with a couple of these following ideas. The ethos behind them is to be more unique, making your candlelit dinner more than just romantic. It has to be special. This involves more than cooking the meal yourself as I am about to demonstrate.

The familiar setting
I recommend that you avoid your dining room as best as you can. You and your lover eat dinner here every night. You’re in the same chairs, usually in the same position and the setting is all too familiar. I think that having a romantic meal at home has to feel different from the everyday meals you have together. So why not, move the table and chairs outside in the garden? Get something to cover the chairs and the table, so it looks completely different. You could then place a little candle on the ground, in a runway light configuration, drawing up to the dining table outside. Turn all the house lights off so they don’t interfere with your candles.
Make it yourself
Of course, I think you should make the meal yourself, although one couldn’t blame you for ordering a gourmet meal to be delivered to you. But it’s the effort that counts more than anything. Which is why I also recommend making your own alcoholic beverage, to your lover’s taste. If you go onto KegThat you’ll find hops, malt and yeast for ingredients. However, you also have a wide range of homebrewing equipment to choose from. They have a nifty little blog, which goes into detail of the kinds of things you’ll need for what kind of beer or ale you’re making. They also make it easier to understand what kind of alcoholic beverages you can make at home, with a small brewing kit. I think it would be brilliant to say you cooked the meal yourself but also produced the drink too. A well-rounded effort doesn’t go unnoticed!
Dress like your best
You are in the comfort of your own home, but make the effort to dress like you’re in a fine dining restaurant. I really do believe that you should take on a holistic approach to a candlelit dinner. It would be like a fairytale if you can at all help it. So that means, you fellas need to dress in a fine suit. Be cleanly shaved, polish your shoes, (we do notice!).
Ladies, I know you may think he won’t care how you look, as long as the food is good and the night finishes the way he expects. But, seriously, make the effort to look ravishing. Wear your best evening gown, along with your best jewelry. Shave your legs and the whole shebang. Dress as you would, at a banquet or state dinner.
I hope you take on board these details and words of encouragement. Don’t have your romantic meal where you always have it and, make the beverage along with the food yourself for ultimate a wow factor.
